Sensory Friendly Series: Friday Nights Uptown
Friday, May 17, 2024 6pm - 10pm

The goal of our Sensory Friendly Series is to make each event as inclusive to all people as possible. Some people forgo attending certain viewing experiences, like movies, theatre performances, or other community events because of an expectation for attendees to remain quiet, and attentive, and doing so is difficult for them. Whether you need to move around to remain calm, or you are a mother with energetic and loud kiddos, or whatever the case may be, our Sensory Friendly Series is attentive to you!

Join us for Friday Nights Uptown streamed LIVE in a Sensory Friendly space at The Avalon Theatre in partnership with the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the City of Marysville, Haven Community Church, Derek Schwyn and the generous support of Katie Crocco.

With the house lights brought up and the viewing audio brought down (with closed captions in some cases), there is no expectation for anyone to remain seated or quiet, the only expectation is to be yourself! This viewing experience caters to those who want a more relaxed experience, where everyone who attends knows that they can be comfortable being themselves!

At The Avalon Theatre, we strive to be an inclusive and safe space for everyone in our community. We are partnering with the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities, to create sensory-friendly events and provide a safe viewing experience for the 1,131 people with disabilities in our community, and the community at large!

Follow The Avalon Theatre and The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all of our new sensory-friendly events happening near you!

The Theron Brown Trio (Theron Brown, Zaire [Zigg] Darden, Jordan McBride) is in the business of making you feel good through music. The trio is truly special, and has a sound that is recognized in Northeast Ohio as something to be excited about!
Theron Brown - Piano
Zaire (Zigg) Darden - Drums

A glimpse of gospel, jazz, and soul from the great legends is what inspires the sound of
pianist Theron Brown’s music. But the reason he plays is to encourage and influence people
through his talents.
Originally from Zanesville, Ohio, Theron currently resides in Akron, Ohio, where he is
Professor of Practice at The University of Akron teaching jazz piano, and the program
coordinator for Curated Storefront’s Artist Residency Program at the ‘I Promise School’.
Theron also serves as an educator for the interactive piano learning app, Playground

director of the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival, which takes place annually in Akron, Ohio’s
downtown historic district. Theron performs and tours regularly with his trio that includes
Zaire Darden on drums and Jordan McBride on bass.
Theron received an amazing opportunity as he auditioned for and was cast as young Herbie
Hancock in the 2016 film, Miles Ahead, directed by and starring Don Cheadle.
In 2019, Theron released his debut album, No Concepts. Theron is currently working on his
second album.

Sounds of The Avalon presents…
Stella Cole
Sunday, June 24, 2024 @ 4pm & 7pm

After her sold-out holiday concert in December, Stella Cole returns to The Avalon Theatre in June for two performances.

To watch Stella Cole perform is to be transported back in time. Her sense of joy and wonder is infectious – one look at her massive social media following makes this clear. Take a quick scroll through the comments of any of her many viral videos and you'll see not only her irresistible charm, but an ability to expose fans of all ages to the wonders of the Great American Songbook, especially when these timeless stories are told honestly by an artist with an uncanny ability to transcend generations.

On her highly anticipated debut recording, Stella is presented interpreting a collection of classics in a variety of settings, including many featuring an orchestra arranged by multiple Grammy-winner Alan Broadbent. Featuring songs made famous by everyone from Barbra Streisand (“When the Sun Comes Out”) and Judy Garland (“The Boy Next Door” and a classic re-interpretation of “Over the Rainbow”) to Billie Eilish (“My Future”) and Audrey Hepburn (“Moon River” of course!), it is sure to be one of the most impressive vocal recordings of 2024.

Upon first hearing Stella Cole, one is immediately struck by her rich tone and extraordinary vocal control. However, what is particularly rare is her ability to interpret songs that were initially intended for actors in character in a direct, personally vulnerable way that connects to something within herself, placing her in the lineage of the greatest interpreters of the repertoire. Perhaps most exciting, to her many young fans, who have never heard these songs before, these are Stella Cole songs, which clearly makes her one of the most exciting artists of her generation.

Sounds of the Avalon
David McCreary
Saturday, June 29, 2024 @ 7pm

David McCreary has been performing comedy and magic since he was 20 years old and is returning to The Avalon Theatre stage!

Yes, while his friends were all in college or beginning respectable careers David was learning magic tricks. Think about that. For over 30 years now, David (a full-grown adult) has been doing magic tricks. There's a fine line between awesome and sad and David has chosen to walk that line all for his audience’s enjoyment.

Combining rapid fire quick wit and unbelievable sleight of hand, David will have you scratching your head one moment and holding your sides from laughter the next. David hopes this is magic
and comedy that you’ll be talking about for days, weeks, maybe even months from now, because, if not, he has completely wasted his entire adult life.

Aside from comedy and magic, David has been the host of the Ohio Lottery’s weekly televised gameshow, Cash Explosion. He has written and appeared in many television commercials and
continues to do his best to entertain the masses on YouTube and social media.

Honda of America, Fed Ex, Chase Banks, NetJets, Jason Day’s BrighterDays Invitational, The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, and NBC are just a few of the companies that sing the praises of David’s comedy and magic.

Ticket Price - $15.00 [Adults] & $8.00 [Children 13 & under]
